Statement of Principles
The Western Australia Police strives to ensure that members of the community have the utmost confidence in the ethics, integrity and professional conduct of its workforce. A key mechanism for that confidence is the maintenance of an open and accountable complaints handling process. You are entitled to:
- Complain when you are not satisfied with a service provided by the Western Australia Police;
- Have your complaint taken seriously;
- Be treated with courtesy and respect; and
- Be assured that the investigation into your complaint is undertaken in a fair and equitable manner.
Charter
To provide the Western Australia Police with a capacity to record, assess, allocate and monitor complaints or other incidents requiring internal investigation.
To provide support and guidance to Regions, Portfolios, Districts and Divisions to enable them to conduct quality internal investigations into allegations of misconduct by police officers.
To maintain and provide statistical information in relation to misconduct allegations.
To quality assure completed internal investigations and provide a practical reporting interface between the WA Police and the Corruption and Crime Commission.
To identify trends and issues which need to be dealt with at the corporate level and to recommend appropriate action and/or change to policy and procedures.
