In a move to create a uniform product across Australia, WA Police has aligned with other police jurisdictions to include WA traffic convictions in the National Police Certificate (NPC). A NPC is a crucial document for most job seekers and is sought by licensing bodies and foreign consulates progressing visa applications. This decision reduces the cost for a WA applicant to obtain the same information, and improves access by enabling an applicant to obtain the information through one transaction at a participating Australia Post outlet.
From 1 July 2012 the WA Police Traffic Conviction Certificate is no longer issued. Applicants need only apply for a NPC to receive traffic conviction information in a single secure document.
This amalgamation provides a saving to an applicant of more than $14 (to obtain the same information previously provided in two separate certificates), and improves community access to the service by eliminating the need to attend both a post office and a police station.
To assist in the transition phase to one certificate, WA Police will re-issue a NPC that verifies an applicant’s traffic conviction history where the original application for a NPC was made in June 2012 (a NPC issued after 1 July 2012 will verify an applicant’s traffic conviction history). Application for the re-issue of a NPC (only where application was made in June 2012) can be made by contacting the National Police Certificate Hotline on 1300 651 963.
