Tips for personal safety

In light of the recent sex assaults and attempted abduction this week, WA Police would like to remind everyone about their personal safety.

Some general safety tips to remember are:

  • Be aware of your surroundings at all times and who or what is nearby.
  • Program 000 and 131444 police phone numbers into your mobile phone.
  • Walk with a friend or group wherever possible.
  • Walk in well-lit areas that are clear of overgrown bushes or trees.
  • Have your keys ready before you get to your car.
  • Check the area surrounding your car and your car’s back seat before getting in.
  • Drive with your doors locked.
  • When travelling on public transport such as buses or trains, sit near other people, a guard or the driver.
  • If using trains and you feel unsafe about walking to your car, ask a Transit Officer to escort you.
  • Above all, listen to your intuition.
