Police relationships with the Indian community were strengthened recently with a friendly cricket match between the Sports Federation sponsored WA Police cricket team and a team of Indian students studying at the College of Innovation and Industry skills.
The final tally in the Twenty20 match, organised by the South East Metropolitan District, was WA Police nine for 135, students all out for 108.
South East Metropolitan Assistant District Officer Inspector Rob Anderson and Executive Officer from the Ethnic Communities Council of WA, Suresh Rajan, welcomed the teams and spectators and highlighted the importance of the event.
“By interacting and working together with our community, including those from diverse backgrounds, we build upon mutual trust and respect to promote community confidence and public reassurance,” Inspector Anderson said.
Police won the toss and batted first. Tight bowling from the Indian side kept the police batsmen in check, with top scorer Mirrabooka Police Station’s Constable Rob Head working hard to pick up 24 runs from 12 balls.
The top two batsmen among the students picked up 30 runs from 25 balls and 17 runs in seven balls respectively, including hitting one of the police bowlers for six in the most impressive hit of the day.
Team captains Sergeant Mike Sedgman and Jatin Dutta meet before the match.
