The Western Australia Police Pipe Band is one of the top pipe bands in the world. While it is called the WA Police Pipe Band, it really belongs to all Western Australians and actively supports this concept by performing for the community at every opportunity.
For decades, the band has taken part in numerous annual events, such as the Channel 7 Christmas pageant, St Patrick's Day Parade, Oz Concert and Anzac Day parade, while also conducting a full program of smaller performances for senior citizens groups, charities and smaller audiences.
They have performed internationally and were the 1998 World Champions in Grade 2 and 2001 North American Open Champions in Grade 1. The band has played at most major pipes and drums events throughout the world, including two
Edinburgh Tattoos and Beating the Retreat in Hong Kong.
The WA Police Pipe Band perform at all WA Police events and ceremonial occasions; National Police Remembrance Day ceremonies throughout Western Australia; police station openings; ceremonial events for the Fire and Emergency Services Authority of Western Australia (FESA) and other emergency service organisations; many varied charity events for Police Legacy and other charitable organisations such as the Victorian bushfires appeal.
The band also performs at primary schools, nursing homes, street parades, festivals, various sporting events, multicultural events, exhibitions; and for various government agencies at both state and federal level.
The band consists of two police officers and 13 police staff, who spend approximately half of their time supporting front line policing. They actively contribute to core policing objectives through their work at Media and Public Affairs and the Police Assistance Centre.
