Police Licensing Services is responsible for:
- Issue and renewal of all firearms licences.
- Consideration of all original firearms and additional firearms for existing licences.
- Approval of Temporary and Interstate permits.
- Maintenance of the Firearms Registry System (FRS).
- Regulation of businesses involved in the use of firearms.
- Firearms licence revocations.
- Consideration of firearms and weapons importation and exports (Customs B709).
What am I required to do when I store propellants and/or black powder?
Propellant and/or black powder (excluding any ammunition propellant contained within ammunition) must be stored in a non-ferrous container (eg: a wooden box or other non-ferrous container).
Note: no more than 2kg of black powder may be stored in any one container. This non-ferrous container MUST then be stored inside a firearms safe in accordance with normal Firearms Regulations Schedule 4.

How long will my Firearms Application take?
The current processing times for the following firearm applications apply:
- Original Firearms applications = approximately 60 days
- Additional Firearms applications = approximately 30 days
If you have not been contacted by Police Licensing Services after these time periods elapse, please contact Police Licensing Services Help Centre on 1300 171 011 and we will advise you of the anticipated completion date.
