The Children's Crossing and Road Safety Committee (Applications) provides a consultative and decision-making forum for reviewing applications requesting children's crossings within Western Australia.
The Committee also reviews current children's crossings to ensure they continue to meet the warrant criteria, infrastructure and safety standards. The Committee meets every second month.
The Applications Committee is made up of voting and non-voting members from various government bodies and independent organisations.

The Children's Crossing and Road Safety Committee (Policy) provides both a consultative and decision making forum effectively addressing issues relating to children's crossings and road safety.
The Committee also provides a forum for the appeal process against decisions made by the Children's Crossing and Road Safety Committee (Applications).
The Children's Crossing and Road Safety Committee (Policy) meets every second month and membership is from various government bodies and independent organisations.

Decisions made by the Policy Committee are based on the "majority rule".
The Children's Crossing and Road Safety Committee is autonomous with its decision-making process, but reports to the Hon Rob; Johnson, MLA; Minister for Police; and Emergency Services; Road Safety via the Assistant Commissioner, Traffic & Operations.
Student Pedestrian Policy Unit (SPPU)
Provides administrative support to the Children's Crossing and Road Safety Committee.
Provides information to schools, Parents & Citizens/Friends Committees who wish to apply for a children's crossing.
Application process for a children's crossing
Applicants must be either the School Principal, or President/Secretary of a recognised school/parent organisation, for example P&C or P&F. They are invited to apply for a Type A or Type B Children's Crossing.
A location may be approved as either a Type 'A' or a Type 'B' crossing. Both have similar legal significance but differ as follows:
- Type 'A' may be provided where a minimum of 20 students and 200 vehicle movements occur within the hour immediately before and immediately after school, with a minimum student/vehicle conflict of 15,000 for a primary school, or a combined primary/high school.
- Type 'A' may be provided where a minimum of 20 students and 700 vehicle movements occur within the hour immediately before and immediately after school, with a minimum student/vehicle conflict of 25,000 for a high school.
- Type 'B' may be provided where a minimum of 10 students and 100 vehicle movements occur within the hour immediately before and immediately after school, with a minimum student/vehicle conflict of 7,500 for a primary school or a combined primary/high school.
- Type 'B' may be provided where a minimum of 10 students and 350 vehicle movements occur within the hour immediately before and immediately after school, with a minimum student/vehicle conflict of 12,500 for a high school.
