To coincide with Reconciliation Week 2020, the WA Police Academy has started receiving pieces of Aboriginal art from all over WA.

Artists from all Police Districts around the State have been commissioned to produce pieces of art for display on the upper level of the Learning Centre.

A/Assistant Commissioner Dario Bolzonella said it means a lot to these artists to have their work on display at the WA Police Academy.

“For us, the vivid colours and accompanying stories help us connect with our First Nation’s people,” he said.

Each piece of art will have a plaque providing details of the artist and an explanation of the work.

Acting Academy Principal Steve Post said having these amazing pieces of art hanging at the Police Academy helps to build a more culturally safe place for Aboriginal people to work and learn the craft of policing. “It builds understanding and inclusivity which is important if we are serious about reconciliation,” he said.

There will be an official unveiling of all artwork in the coming months.
