Sergeant Rimmer is the event director for the Gibb Challenge - a 660 km, socially competitive, team relay mountain bike event which raises community awareness and funds for charity. He has been running the event since 2007.

“In May 2021 we partnered with the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Western Operations) to support their invaluable aeromedical services to regional Western Australians,” Sgt Rimmer said.

“Bouncing back from our postponed event in 2020, I drew together 80 teams and around 400 participants who came from every state and territory in Australia, to take part in our lifedefining adventure from Derby to El Questro on the iconic Gibb River Road in the remote Kimberley Region of Western Australia.

“In 2021 the event raised $620,000 and achieved a $3,000,000 fundraising milestone for the RFDS, making the Gibb Challenge their largest non-corporate benefactor.”

The Gibb Challenge was the winner of the 2021 Australian Event Awards – Best Charity or Cause-Related Event.

“Not bad for a little bike ride through the bush,” he said.

The next ride is scheduled to take place from 13-20 May, 2022. This ride will benefit the Kyle Andrews Foundation and another ambitious fundraising target of $500,000 has been set. Visit the Gibb Challenge website to find out more.
