Police Officer conducts breath test

The summer holidays can increase traffic volumes on Western Australian roads as more people are out and about enjoying social activities and holidays across our state.

As the weather warms up and we approach the festive season, many people will be heading out to celebrate with family, friends and colleagues to enjoy Perth's entertainment venues.

The WA Police Force will be targeting impaired driving throughout the festive season.

Our officers will continue to focus on offences most frequently linked to fatal and serious crashes, including speeding, failure to wear seatbelts and inattention through mobile phone use. We will target people who may have made the potentially fatal decision to drive to or from entertainment venues or Christmas parties while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

State Traffic Superintendent Dom Wood said officers will be utilising a combination of marked and unmarked cars and motorcycles to monitor major entertainment precincts as well as Christmas party venues, train station car parks and back roads.

“The message we want to get across is that we don’t want you to put yourself or other road users at risk, even if it is only a short drive home.

“Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is never an excuse. We want you to come home to your family safe,” he said.
