Our agency is responsible for licensing security agents, pawnbrokers and second-hand dealers licensing and licence applications.
Note that the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety is responsible for all applications and enquiries with regards to debt collectors. Applications for auctioneers licenses should be made at the nearest courthouse at which you will conduct the business the subject of the license.
You may be eligible for a refund on your licenseOn 31 March 2020, the Hon Mark McGowan MLA, Premier of Western Australia, announced a 12-month waiver of a range of business and occupational licence and registration fees paid by businesses affected by COVID-19.
In May 2020, the Licensing Enforcement Division (LED) identified certain business and occupational licence renewal fees, concerning existing firearms businesses and security, crowd-control and inquiry agents, as falling within the scope of the Premier’s announcement.
Only existing renewals for business or corporate licences likely affected by the COVID-19 crisis were included, not individual licence fees or new licence application fees.
In relation to firearms licence renewals the Commissioner’s order under section 8(1) provides that
- all licence holders in possession of a current relevant licence on 1 July 2020 shall be issued a refund of the prescribed fee for renewal;
- any licence holder applying for a renewal during the 2020-21 financial year who has not received a refund, will be refunded after their renewal application is paid.
- all licence holders in possession of a current relevant licence on 1 July 2020 shall be issued a refund of one third of the prescribed fee for renewal, calculated on the basis of the prescribed fee in the year the relevant licence was issued;
- any existing licence holder applying for a renewal during the 2020-21 financial year who has not received a refund, will have their licence renewal fee reduced by one-third and receive the benefit of a full three year licence renewal.
