Technology Crime

Technology Crime Services

Australians are vigorous consumers of technology, with one of the highest adoption rates in the world. This also translates into more offenders using technology to commit crimes. Technology Crime Services, originally established as The Computer Crime Squad in 1997, provides the Western Australia Police Force with a means to address these crimes.

Technology Crime Services investigates serious and complex electronic crime matters which may lead to identifying and prosecuting offenders.

While there are many offences and scams that can be committed via electronic means, Technology Crime Services will conduct an investigation when the:

  • offence targets a computer or computer network;
  • offender unlawfully uses a computer as per section 440A of the criminal code;
  • offence is committed predominately through the use of a computer system; or
  • successful investigation of an offence requires specialist technical knowledge or equipment.
