Evade Police Arrest and Apprehension by Police Dog Mako

Regional Investigations Unit detectives arrested a man after a burglary and evade police incident overnight.

Around 10:20pm on Tuesday 7 August 2018, officers attempted to stop a stolen Volkswagen Golf hatchback in the Armadale area. Officers lost sight of the vehicle and it was last seen heading towards Roleystone.

Later officers were called to a car fire in Roleystone which turned out to be the Volkswagen Golf. Around the same time a Mazda sedan was stolen from a nearby residence.

About 12:05am on Wednesday 8 August 2018, officers observed the stolen Mazda in the Thornlie area. The Mazda was abandoned at the intersection of Belgravia and Fulham Streets in Belmont and the driver fled on foot.

Police Dog Mako was deployed and he tracked the driver who was hiding on the roof of a home on Fulham Street in Belmont. The 21 year man was taken into custody.

The man of no fixed address is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court today, 8 August 2018, on the following charges:
• Possess a Prohibited Drug (Cannabis);
• Steal Motor Vehicle and Drive Recklessly;
• Obstructing Public Officers;
• Stealing;
• Possessed drug paraphernalia in or on which there was a prohibited drug or plant;
• Driver of a vehicle failed to comply with a direction to stop (circumstance of aggravation) ;
• Reckless driving to escape pursuit by police;
• Driver of a vehicle failed to comply with a direction to stop (circumstance of aggravation);
• Steal Motor Vehicle;
• Reckless driving to escape pursuit by police;
• Possess a Prohibited Drug (Amphetamine);
• Criminal damage by fire;
• Never held a drivers licence;
• Aggravated home burglary and commit; and
• Never held a drivers licence.
