Armadale Police have investigated the circumstances around a baby being left in a car in Armadale yesterday afternoon (Wednesday 2 October 2019).

About 4.25pm, the man drove to the Armadale Shopping Centre located on Jull Street and parked his vehicle in the undercover car park. His three month old baby boy was in a child seat behind the driver’s seat.

It is alleged the man left his baby in the vehicle with the front window slightly open and went inside the shopping centre. It is further alleged he did not return to his vehicle until just before 5pm.

About 4.35pm, a member of the public heard the baby crying and opened the rear door to allow more air into the vehicle before calling police.

Police attended and removed the baby who felt quite hot from the vehicle. An ambulance was called and the baby was conveyed to hospital where he was assessed and released.

The 35-year-old man from Armadale is being charged by summons with Leaving Child Unsupervised in Vehicle and will appear in court at a later date.

The penalty for this offence is: “Liable to imprisonment for 5 years. Summary conviction penalty: a fine of $36 000 and imprisonment for 3 years”.
