2020 Winners

The Western Australia Police Force and Nine News Perth are excited to announce the winners of the 2020 Nine News WA Police Excellence Awards.

The winner of the individual category was Senior Constable Sam Lim, from Diversity & Engagement Unit. The award recognises his exemplary service and dedication to multicultural and diverse communities in Western Australia during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The winners of the team category were South Hedland Police Station, Pilbara District. The officers in this team have been praised for their passion, care and bravery in a number of critical incidents. The team have increased public confidence and are committed to keeping the town safe.

• Sergeant Brian Beck, In Service Training Unit, Police Academy
• Sergeant Gary Benzies, Mandurah District Office, Mandurah District

The awards recognise the wonderful work that is being done by police officers all over the State and the contributions they make to our community. The stories of our winners and finalists highlight that police work is both varied and challenging and greatly affects people from all walks of life. Policing is not only a job; it is a way of life.

Who judges the awards?
The judging panel includes representatives from our sponsors, Nine Perth, Crown Perth, P&N Bank, 6PR, WA Today and senior police, who will validate the claims and provide advice to the panel on the officers’ suitability for the awards.
