Safe as Houses
Safe as Houses is an online project, to raise awareness and encourage the public to protect their property and belongings from burglars.
Of the 15,740 residential burglary offences recorded in 2013, nearly 24% occurred because of people leaving their doors and windows unlocked.
The project aims to provide crime prevention advice to protect residents from becoming a victim of crime.
Community Engagement Officer Stephanie Celizic explains, "Burglary is such an intrusive crime, with consequences extending beyond just the physical grief of losing their possessions. Victims are often robbed of their sense of security in their own homes."
She advises people to keep doors and windows locked, even when you are home, and remove valuable items from view. Getting to know your neighbours is the cheapest security investment.
